Grant Imahara Biography (Age)
It was in Los Angeles, California on the 23rd of October 1970 that Grant Imahara was born. There isn’t much information about his early life, but we do know that he attended the University of Southern California and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Although an engineer with enormous talent, Grant always had a soft spot for screenwriting and even considered changing his majors with the intention of becoming a screenwriter. But his decision to change majors changed when he decided to help USC School of Cinematic Arts professor Tomlinson Holman.
Imahara was lucky enough to be hired immediately after graduating as an engineer for Lucasfilm’s THX division, he was soon transferred to the company’s visual effects division once his immense ability was spotted. He worked at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) for over nine years and was involved in many successful films which included Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and The Terminator Just to name a few.
During his very impressive career, Imahara has been credited with so many feature films as a modeler. But it was his work in the Star Wars movie where he updated the rapidly aging R2-D2 robots for the Star Wars prequel trilogy that earned him the most accolades.
He took the biggest step of his career so far when, with the help of his former ILM colleague, Linda Wolkovich (who is the associate producer of MythBusters) alongside another friend Jamie Hyneman, he was asked to work for MythBusters, which he duly obliged. MythBusters had multiple teams that make up the entire company and Imahara was part of the Build team, he is often jokingly referred to as the geek on his team.
Besides her work at MythBusters, Imahara has also hosted the White Rabbit Project, a Netflix original series focused on investigations bordering on jailbreaks and heists. He hosted this show alongside his colleagues and friends Kari Byron and Tory Belleci.
Imahara is primarily known for his behind-the-scenes work in movies, but he’s had occasional cameo appearances in series such as The Guild, BattleBots, and was also cast as an actor and screenwriter in the short Architects of Evil. Showing how far I’ve come, Imahara was profiled by IEEE Spectrum magazine in an article titled “Grant Imahara: Debunker in The Box.”
