The famous actress was born as Grace LillisGealey on July 26, 1984 in Butler, Pennsylvania, United States; she was born to parents who were both deaf. From what we understand, her father was born deaf and her mother lost her sense of hearing when she was two years old, as a result of pneumonia she suffered from for some time.
Although the actress was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was raised in the Cayman Islands alongside her sister Faith Gealey-Brown by their deaf parents.

Her education was attributed to the University of South Florida in Tampa where she studied theater arts and earned her first degree. After graduating from college, she secured a spot in the graduate program at the University of California, Irvine. It is with this institution that she obtained an MFA as an actress.
During her formative years on the Cayman Islands, the aspiring actress didn’t see herself in the acting profession, as careers in banking, but working in hospitality and tourism were more in demand on the island. ‘Isle. The actress’ love life story is short and simple. On July 28, 2015, she officially got engaged to the one love of her life and her Empire co-star Trai Byers.
