Marty Sheahan was discovered dead at a property on Clarke Avenue in Warburton on Wednesday night by emergency services.
The 57-year-old municipal worker and his wife Mandy were home when he answered the door to his murderer and was shot dead.
Mr. Sheahan worked for the Yarra Ranges Council for six years and was a “much-valued member of our Infrastructure Services department,” according to a statement released on Friday.

According to 7NEWS, the 57-year-old gunman was a former colleague seeking vengeance.
The individual is understood to have been sacked from Yarra Ranges Council more than five years ago for suspected stealing.
Shortly after police reacted to the shooting, his corpse was discovered in a toilet block in reserve on Warburton Highway in Wesburn.
Victoria Police have confirmed that both males are known to each other and that they are not seeking anybody else in connection with the deaths.
The second individual is said to be a disgruntled former colleague of Mr. Sheahan.
