In 1958, Gloria and Anthony Ray reconnected. In May 1960, they got married in Tijuana, Mexico. The couple went on to have two children; Anthony, Jr., and James.

Until in 1962, the news of their marriage was kept private, when it was written about in the tabloids and the ensuing scandal damaged Gloria’s reputation and affected her career. After learning of her marriage to Anthony Ray, her third husband, Cy Howard, attempted to gain sole custody of the couple’s daughter, Marianna.

Howard asserted Gloria was an unfit mother, and the two battled about the care of Marianna for quite a long time. The pressure of the outrage, her winding down vocation, and her guardianship fight with Howard negatively affected Grahame and she had a nervous breakdown.

Later on, in 1964, she underwent electroshock therapy. In spite of the surrounding scandal, her marriage to Anthony Ray was her only one, of four, to last well beyond four years (her marriage to his father lasted 4 years 2 months), as they did not divorce until a few days short of their 14th anniversary, in May 1974.
