Githunguri Dairy Farmers Sacco was registered in August 1961 with a membership of 31 members. The Sacco started with one collection centre, which have increased to 58 fully computerized to date. Currently the cooperative has grown tremendously to 17,000 registered members, annual turnover of Kshs 3 billion and an average of 170,000 litres of milk per day.The growth has emanated from a proactive response to be successful in pursuit of significant growth in a rapidly changing economic, social and political environment.
In July 2004 the society commissioned its own milk processing plant and was able to access wide market through value addition and wide range of dairy products. The investment resulted from members contributing Kshs 1 for every kg of milk sold. Today Fresha has revolutionised the Dairy industry in Kenya.The society has over 16000 members drawn from Githunguri Division. Majority of the members practice zero grazing farming method.The society has store outlets spread in the catchment area for provision of dairy farm inputs and household consumables to members on credit.Githunguri Dairy Farmers Community Sacco which is the largest dairy farmers Sacco in Kiambu County
