Gino Mäder, a Swiss road and track cyclist, previously competed with UCI WorldTeam’s Team Bahrain Victorious. In 2023, an accident killed Mäder while he was competing in the Tour de Suisse.
The cyclist and American Magnus Sheffield violently collided on Thursday as they were descending the Albula Pass in the Swiss Alps. The Bahrain-Victorious team reported that Gino Mader passed away one day after crashing into a barrier and plunging into a gully at the Tour de Suisse.
Near the end of the fifth stage’s uphill finish line in La Punt, the 26-year-old Mäder lost control on a bumpy drop.
The Team Bahrain Victorious rider was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Chur after being extricated from the gully where he had fallen.
