Gillian Joseph worked for the BBC in Manchester, as well as working as a radio reporter for BBC Radio Merseyside. She worked for Newsbeat on BBC Radio 1 in 1994. In 1998, she moved to London and presented Newsroom South East, until it ended in 2001. She then went on to present its replacement BBC London News until 2005, when she moved to Sky News.

During her time at Sky, Joseph has presented various different slots, including Sky News at Ten and Sky News in the evening alongside Jeremy Thompson. From 2007, until October 2016, Joseph presented Sunrise alongside Mark Longhurst, and then Stephen Dixon. From October 2016, until December 2017 Joseph has hosted from 5 pm to 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

On December 2017 she started as maternity cover for Isabel Webster. She initiated her career after her graduation from City University at BBC in Manchester which was followed by her work as a radio reporter for ‘Radio Merseyside’. In 1994, she moved to Newsbeat on ‘BBC Radio 1’ and worked there for 4 years. She joined the BBC in London in February 1998 as a reporter/presenter and then promptly announced she’d be off on maternity leave.

Growing as she did on screen, and boy did she grow, she claims to have been bankrupted by having to buy outsize jackets. She returned to the newsroom at Christmas 1998. She started her career in Manchester on the BBC’s regional news program. She moved on to be a reporter and then producer at Radio Merseyside in Liverpool and was one of the first reporters on the Bulger murder case.

With years in Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool under her belt, she’s proud to have shed her North of Watford ignorance. On her return to London, Gillian became hip and happening, joining Radio 1 as reporter/newsreader. She was expecting to hit the clubs and live life on the brink but was rather let down as she was the youngest in the newsroom.

She’s reported for the BBC’s Black Britain program, the One and Six O’clock News Breakfast News, Newsnight and Holiday (the only time in her life that she actually purchased a bikini). She also presented a Sunday morning reflective news show on BBC LONDON 94.9FM. She lives in northwest London with her two daughters and husband.

She loves traveling but thinks her BBC assignment to Suriname in South America where she slept in the jungle with bats and rats for the company was probably the last of its kind. After gaining some experience from ‘BBC Radio 1’, she joined ‘Newsroom South East’ and moved to London.

In 2001, she left ‘Newsroom South East’ and moved towards a more reputed company ‘BBC London’ News which was followed by her work as a newscaster for ‘SKY News’ in 2005. Currently, she is active as a newscaster for ‘SKY News’. Furthermore, she is an ambassador of charity Plan UK’s Because I Am A Girl campaign.
