Giancarlo’s Nationality And Ethnicity
Giancarlo was born and raised in America and is of Irish-American, Puerto Rican, and African-American descent.
Growing up, he has stated that he felt a lot of ambivalence towards his name. Growing up, his mother called him Cruz, while his father and other relatives called him either Mike or Mikey.
He switched to Mike from Giancarlo in the sixth grade because he was tired of being made fun of. He continued to be called Mike Stanton for much of his high school and minor league career and the first two years of his major league career.
It wasn’t until a trip to Europe in the 2011-12 offseason that he learned to love and respect his name. Being around words like Gianpiero, Gianpolo, Gianluigi and Giancarlo made him realize his name’s beauty. Following this trip, he made it known before the 2012 season that he preferred to be called Giancarlo.
After embracing his real name, Stanton also spoke about how much he respects and cherishes his Puerto Rican heritage. He has said that he grew up idolizing Roberto Clemente and Ivan Rodriguez, both players from Puerto Rico.
Stanton himself has become something of a Puerto Rican and Afro-Latin icon. However, when the Puerto Rican national team investigated if he could play for them or not, they discovered that his connection with Puerto Rico was too far back on his mother’s family tree for him to be eligible.
Stanton only represents the United States internationally and has done so during the World Baseball Classic in 2013 and 2017.
Is Giancarlo Stanton Married?
Giancarlo Stanton is unmarried and does not have any children.
He seems to cherish his unmarried status and has said in various interviews, especially the one in the New York Post in May 2021, that he enjoys being one of New York’s most eligible bachelors.
Another reason why Stanton enjoyed his bachelorhood, he revealed, was because it gave him time to focus on being the best baseball player he could be.
This hasn’t stopped Stanton from being linked to his fair share of lovers, the most prominent being model Chase Carter.
