About the owner
Raised in Lyon, France, Melanie Mazarin spent most of her time participating in different celebrations. She frequently gathered with friends and prepared dinners while splitting her time between the old city and the South of France with her family.
She spent most of her summers around the Mediterranean, where Aperitivo was frequently included. There was a feeling of belongingness and togetherness while making and sharing drinks. Drinking was a part of the culture that she missed when she moved to the USA.
She faced cultural differences while she was in the USA. She observed that, in France and Italy, alcohol has always been a part of family gatherings and different celebrations but in the USA, it was slightly different. “We have been conditioned to think of it as a coping mechanism.” However, Melanie viewed drinking as connecting with friends and family, enjoying its taste while sharing different conversations, laughing together, and living freely in the moment.
She viewed drinking as a part of a memory and that’s how the idea of creating Ghia came. Finally, in 2019, Ghia was created, a non-alcoholic drink that was designed to savor its wonderful taste without having to worry about getting into a terrible hangover and other side effects.
The owner referred to drinking alcohol as a past tense in her situation. She had to stop drinking alcohol in 2018 due to some medical conditions and that’s when the idea of creating Ghia came to her mind. She did not want non-alcoholic drinkers to feel out of place with their friends and family.
The nostalgia for her childhood where she used to enjoy with her family became her main motivation while creating Ghia. She wanted to create something which brought togetherness and a sense of belongingness.
She also wanted to create a drink that was friendly to non-alcoholic drinkers yet which felt like a grown-up drink. She wants people to feel included even if they did not consume any alcohol. And Ghia is a perfect match for those. She believes that Ghia can be on a list of the non-alcoholic menu at many restaurants as well
