First elected MP from the Yatta seat in Machakos County, Gedion Munyao Mutiso, has passed away.
According to his family, Mutiso passed away on Wednesday while receiving cancer treatment in a hospital in Nairobi.
He was 91. The seasoned congressman had served as a Corporal in the military before resigning on the basis of compassion in response to the British regime’s harsh treatment of Africans.
The political career of Mutiso, who was born on March 31, 1932, began in 1955. He steadfastly opposed taking an oath in 1969 and represented Kenya in the African Trade Union Confederation.
The longest-serving MP for Yatta, Mutiso led a tranquil existence while participating in community initiatives and church activities up until he fell unwell in late 2022.
