Harvey Milk Ship-Navy Reaction
The US Navy has named a ship after a gay rights activist who was forced to resign from the service in the 1950s due to his sexual orientation.
The USNS Harvey Milk was launched in San Diego on Saturday, with Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro and Milk’s nephew, Stuart, in attendance.
It is one of six new ships named after famous civil rights leaders in the United States.
Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary Del Toro stated that it was wrong that Milk was forced to “mask that very important part of his life” while in the Navy.
When the Obama administration announced its intention to name a ship after Milk in 2016, some people were outraged.
They speculated that Milk would have objected to lending his name to a Navy ship because of his well-documented opposition to the Vietnam War.
On the other hand, the navy never believed the accusations against Harvey Milk.
Every person at the ceremony had always praised the courage of Harvey in coming out as gay.
And this same courage took his life.
Dan White, a former city supervisor with whom he had frequently clashed, shot and killed him.
Harvey Milk False Accusation-Here Is What Happened?
Back in 2013, a Christian Lawyer Matt Barber said that Harvey Milk was a rapist who has raped small teenage boys.
Although he never had any proof to give, he has always been against Harvey.
He also spoke about his disapproval at a series of postage stamps featuring late gay rights campaigner Harvey Milk.
But nothing is been said more about the rape accusations, as there is no evidence.
And after 2013, Matt has never spoken anything about Harvey.
