The Wikipedia entry for Gay Kelleway, the first female jockey to win Royal Ascot, appears to be barren.
Gay Kelleway, who made an appearance on “Talking Pints,” mounted her first winner on the flat for top trainer Clive Brittain when she was just 17 years old, finishing second in the Ladies Amateur Championship before winning it at the age of 18.
Similarly, she became a pro after that and won the title of Champion Professional Lady Rider three times in a row.
Prior to that, Gay rode Pretty Picture to victory in the Ascot Gold Cup and was the first woman to saddle a winner at Royal Ascot when her horse Sprowston Boy won.
Further, Gay rode 60 wins in all, a remarkable achievement in a country where horse racing is dominated by men.
