Gary Rossington Parents: Meet Berniece Rossington

Gary Rossington was a songwriter and musician from the United States. Gary Rossington was born in Jacksonville, Florida in December 1951.

Gary Rossington was the son of Berniece Rossington. Gary Rossington’s father died soon after his birth.

This early loss had a profound effect on him, and he became especially devoted to his mother, Berniece.

When Gary first got his hands on a “real” guitar, a classic Les Paul Sunburst, he named it after his mother.

Gary Rossington’s mother recalled that he had a strong childhood interest in baseball and aspired to play for the New York Yankees as a child.

Gary Robert Rossington founded the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Since 1991, the band has released 14 studio albums and sold over 20 million albums. “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” are their signature songs.

Gary Rossington died on 5 March 2023. Although no cause of death was given, Gary Rossington had been dealing with health issues for several decades, particularly since the mid-2010s, when heart problems occasionally sidelined Rossington and the band.
