Gary Earl Johnson Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Gary Earl Johnson (born January 1, 1953) is a businessman and politician from the United States. During his tenure as the 29th Governor of New Mexico, he represented the state as a member of the Republican Party. He was the Libertarian Party’s candidate for President of the United States during the 2012 presidential election. Johnson, who declared his candidacy for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination in November 2014, will seek for the nomination again in 2016. Johnson was born in Minot, North Dakota, although he and his family relocated to New Mexico during his youth. Johnson supported himself financially while a student at the University of New Mexico in 1974 by working as a door-to-door handyman for those in need. Big J Enterprises was established by him as a one-man operation in 1976, and it has grown to become one of the biggest construction businesses in New Mexico since that time. For the first time, he joined politics by running for Governor of New Mexico in 1994 on a platform of fiscal conservatism, low taxation, and anti-crime. He was defeated. Johnson was elected governor of New Mexico after winning the Republican Party’s gubernatorial candidacy. He beat incumbent Democratic governor Bruce King. Over the course of his time as governor, Johnson earned a reputation as a proponent of low-tax libertarian ideas, sticking to policies of tax and bureaucracy reduction that were backed by a cost–benefit analysis. He was able to reduce the budget’s 10 percent annual increase in part because he used the governor veto 200 times in his first six months in office, which reduced the budget’s 10 percent annual growth. It is estimated that Johnson used his veto and line-item veto powers more than any other governor during his tenure, earning him the nicknames “Veto Johnson” and “Governor Veto.” Johnson set state and national records for the use of his veto and line item veto powers, estimated to have been more than the combined use of the other 49 governors during his tenure. Johnson was re-elected in 1998 after a strong campaign. As a member of Congress during his second term, he focused on the subject of school voucher reforms, as well as advocating for marijuana decriminalisation and legalisation, as well as opposition to the War on Drugs. Johnson was not eligible to seek for re-election at the conclusion of his second term because he was serving a term limit. Johnson is a fitness fanatic who places a great focus on personal health and aptitude. He has competed in numerous Ironman Triathlons and has climbed Mount Everest, which he completed in May 2003. The non-profit Our America Initiative was established by Johnson in 2009, after he left the White House. The organisation is dedicated to promoting ideas such as free business, international non-interferenceism, limited government, and privatisation. In the 2008 presidential election, he supported Congressman Ron Paul’s bid for the Republican nomination.

Johnson announced his candidacy for President on April 21, 2011, as a Republican, on a libertarian platform emphasising the reduction of the United States public debt and the achievement of a balanced budget through a 43 percent reduction in all federal government spending, the protection of civil liberties, the immediate cessation of the war in Afghanistan, and his support for the FairTax. Johnson is the son of the late Senator Lyndon Johnson and the grandson of the late Senator Lyndon Johnson. In the wake of being barred from the majority of Republican presidential debates and failing to garner momentum while campaigning for the New Hampshire primary, he announced his withdrawal from the race for the Republican presidential nomination on December 28, 2011.
