John R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel Lord of the Rings: Rings of the Power has the powerful yet beautiful character Galadriel whose striking feature is her silver-gold hair. She shares her ancestral history with Noldor and Teleri, two great Elvyn cultures who inhabited all of Middle-Earth during the Years of the Trees.
Galadriel Family Tree
Galadriel, a mightiest and the fairest of all Elves, as John R. R. Tolkien describes in his fantasy novel Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, was a Noldrin Elf who shared the origin of both Noldor and Teleri. In turn, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power makes Galadriel’s character extremely powerful.
Galadriel Is The Grandchild Of King Finwe and Olwe
King Finwe of Noldor married Indis of the Vanyar and had their only son Finarfin, who married Earwen, the daughter of King Olwe of Teleri.
In their union, Galadriel became the grandaughter of Finwe of the Noldor and Olwe of the Teleri.
Both Nolder and Teleri’s leader led two different groups of Elves to the Undying Lands (Valinor, a blessed realm of Aman) from Middle-Earth. But eventually, the majority of them returned to Middle-earth.
While King Finwe’s people were referred to as Noldor, King Olwe’s people were known as Teleri. Like her other three siblings, Galadriel was a royal member of the House of Finwe.
Get To Know Galadriel’s Parents
Galadriel was born to her parents, Finarfin, prince of Noldor, and Earwen, Olwe’s daughter. She was the only daughter and the youngest child of Prince of Noldor and Earwen.
Galadriel Is The Sister of Finrod Felagund
Finrod Felagund is the eldest brother of Galadriel. Like herself, Finrod is also the Noldorin Elf. In the Years of Trees, Galadriel’s brother was the king of Nargothrond. He is a brother to Angrod, Aegnor, and Orodreth. Although, in the later edition of Tolkein’s publication, Orodreth was described as the son of Angrod and Eldalote, which makes Orodreth his nephew.
Finrod Felagund was the one who founded Minas Tirith while passing River Sirion and later became the king of Nargothrond. He was also the first to come across Men, who were created after Elves and referred to as second people.
Finrod gathered the permission of Thingol, who ruled Beleriand, a northwestern middle-earth region, to lead the Men to Estolad.
While at Beleriand, Galadriel lived with her brother for quite some time. She also spent some time in the court of Thingol and Melian in Doriath.
Details About Other Siblings
Finarfin and Earwen had four children together; Finrod, Angrod, Aegnor, and Galadriel as the youngest.
Angrod, the second child of Finarfin and Earwen, was wed to Eldalot, a Noldorin woman with whom he had a son, Orodreth. Angrod and his younger brother, Aegnor, looked over the Dorthonion mountains. Unfortunately, they passed away while fighting at Dagor Bragollach.
Youngest of three sons, Aegnor was never married to anyone. However, he shared an intimate relationship with the Borian lady, Andreth. The war at Dagor Bragollach took Andreth’s beloved partner away.
Furthermore, Galadriel also had a sibling, Luthien, an elf; her parents were Thingol and Melian. Luthien fell in love with a mortal man Beren.
Elves inhabited all of Middle-earth and were immortal and appeared in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings; however, their mythopoeic stories were fully described in Tolkien’s The Silmarillion.
Galadriel Story in the Lord of Ring: Rings of Power
Galadriel is the strongest, wisest, and most powerful character in the Lord of the Rings. She was part of two great Elven cultures, Noldor and Teleri. Not only did she share two Elven origins, but Galadriel was also a niece to her great uncle Feanor, who created The Silmarils with the light of the Two Trees, Telperion and Laurelin.
Galadriel had the power to peer into other’s minds; she was referred to as the fairest elves in both Aman and Middle-earth.
Galadriel met her husband, Celeborn, a kinsman of Thingol, while living with her brother Finrod Felagund in Doriath. After marrying Celeborn, the couple traveled to Lindon and ruled the group of Elves present there. After some time, they moved eastward and ruled over the realm of Eregion.
While at Eregion, they got in touch with the Nandorin settlement, and she became a joint ruler of Lothlorien alongside her husband. During the second age, they ruled over Lothlorien, the fairest realm of Elves.
However, after Amroth was lost during the third age, they returned to rule Lorien. Galadriel was known as Lady of Lorein, Lady of the Galadhrim, Lady of the Light, and Lady of the Golden Wood.
Like all Finwe’s children, Galadriel is a proud and self-willed character. Galadriel had long silver-golden hair and was remarkably six feet four inches tall. Her uncle Feanor admired her hair so much that he got his inspiration to create the Silmarils from his niece.
Galadriel and Celeborn had a daughter together, Celebrian, who wedded a Half-Elven of Rivendell, Elrond, during the second age. Rivendell is a valley representing sanctuary and a magical elvish world where the journey to destroy One Ring began. It was also an important location in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
Elrond and Galadriel’s daughter had three children together, Arwen, Elladan, and Elrohir. In the third age, Galadriel went on a voyage to Minas Tirith to attend her granddaughter Arwen’s wedding with King Aragorn Elessar as the war ended in Eregion.
During the second age, rings of power were forged by Dark Lord Sauron, who attacked Eregion. Celeborn teamed up with Elrond to fight the attackers in Eregion. Galadriel was a keen participant and led the Noldor to fight the war. After the Eregion war, Elrond first saw Celebrian and fell in love.
