Gaia Girace Biography
Born in 2003 Gaia Girace is an Italian actress who rose to popularity for her role as Lila in the HBO hit tv series, My Brilliant friend, The series has been rebooted for season 2. Likewise, it launched in Italy’s “Rai 1 Channel” on February 10, 2020.
Moreover, Gaia was an early acting enthusiast. Her other notable works include My True Brilliant Friend (2018). You might have noticed that the younger Elena, played by Elisa Del Genio, is much blonder than her co-star, and there’s a reason for that. Elena, who is only 11, is half Norwegian and speaks Spanish, English, Italian, and (of course) fluent Norwegian. Her older brother, who had auditioned for the role of Enzo, didn’t receive the part because he looked too Nordic. Luckily for Elisa, Elena is described as having a fair complexion in the books, so her blonde hair and blue eyes only helped her land the role.
It seems hard to believe that the actress who plays the larger-than-life Lila would be shy, but apparently, it’s true. Described in one interview as haughty and intense, Gaia does seem to be extremely composed for someone her age. Unlike the other actresses on set, Gaia kept her lead role a secret from all of her friends. “It was a thing for me,” she explained. “A personal thing.”

Gaia Girace HBO
Early in the season, Lila is furiously organizing the shiny new grocery store that her husband Stefano (Giovanni Amura) has opened, shouting instructions and hoisting crates onto shelves — “a violent, definitive outburst,” Lenu’s voiceover narration explains, “to free her mind and body of pent-up energy.” The source of that pent-up energy is Lila’s discovery, at the end of the first season, that her new husband, along with her brother Rino (Gennaro De Stefano), has gone behind her back and made a deal with the criminal Solara brothers, who essentially own the neighborhood. Now, they also own a pair of special shoes that Lila designed and Rino made — shoes that Stefano promised to treasure forever. They plan to use Lila’s designs and Rino’s craftsmanship to open a fancy new shoe store.
The act of creation — of conjuring something into being — is at the forefront of this gorgeous and gripping new season, subtitled The Story of a New Name. New stores and apartment buildings rise from the ground; babies are born; art is made. And with different tools at their disposal, Lila and Lenu (Gaia Girace and Margherita Mazzucco) each attempt to construct an independent life.
