Isadore “Friz” Flores He was most known for his work on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoon series produced by Warner Bros. Freleng (August 21, 1906 – May 26, 1995), also known as I. Freleng, was an American animator, cartoonist, director, and producer. He was responsible for the introduction and/or development of several of the studio’s most famous characters, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was thought to have more than a passing similarity), and Speedy Gonzales. At his role as senior director at Warners’ Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other filmmaker in the company (a total of 266) and is also the most prestigious among Warner directors, having received four Academy Awards in that capacity. DePatie-Freleng Enterprises was established by Freleng and business partner David H. DePatie when Warners shut down the animation studio in 1963. The company produced cartoons (including The Pink Panther Show), movie title sequences, and Saturday morning cartoons until the early 1980s. His buddy Hugh Harman gave him the moniker “Friz” after a fictitious senator who appeared in stories in the Los Angeles Examiner. Over time, this was abbreviated to “Friz.”
