Frankie Crocker Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Frankie “Hollywood” Crocker (December 18, 1937, Buffalo, New York, USA – October 21, 2000, North Miami Beach, Florida) was a well-known New York radio DJ who died at the age of 62 on October 21, 2000 in North Miami Beach, Florida.

(He was given the nickname “Hollywood” because of his strong sense of theatrics and self-marketing strategies.) According to popeducation.org, Crocker began his radio career in Buffalo at the AM Soul powerhouse WUFO (which was also the home of future greats Eddie O’Jay, Herb Hamlett, Gary Byrd, and Chuck T) before moving to Manhattan, where he first worked for Soul station WWRL before moving to top-40 station WMCA in 1969.

Crocker was born in Buffalo and raised in Manhattan. He subsequently went on to serve as programme director for WBLS-FM, where he was instrumental in propelling the station to the top of the ratings in the late 1970s and pioneering the radio format now known as urban current. He referred to himself as the “Chief Rocker” on occasion, and he was as well-known for his braggadocio on-air patter as he was for his off-air flamboyance. Crocker rode into Studio 54 on a white horse while the club was in the height of its fame in the 1950s and 1960s.
