Scientific Research

Okeke has dedicated much of her career to studying the ionosphere and the “equatorial electrojet phenomenon.” Energized by the sun, the electrojet is a river of electric current that traverses the globe eastward around the dip equator and causes the magnetic field at the dip equator to vary almost fives time more than anywhere else on the planet. (The dip or magnetic equator differs from the equator by a few degrees, as the Earth’s magnetic north pole is different from what we generally think of as the north pole.)

Okeke’s research on how solar activity in the ionosphere affects the Earth’s magnetic field could lead to a better understanding of climate change and help pinpoint sources of dramatic phenomena like tsunamis and earthquakes.

Awards

She was named L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards Laureate for Africa in 2013

Leslie Nielsen’s net worth, biography, fact, career, awards and life story

Leslie Nielsen Net Worth: Leslie Nielsen was a Canadian-American actor and comedian who had a net worth of $20 million. Though he had a diverse career that lasted multiple decades, he will perhaps always be best-remembered for his roles in the Naked Gun and Airplane film franchises. Leslie Nielsen was born February 11, 1926 in Regina, Canada. He left an indelible impression and a huge legacy in more than one hundred films and 150 television programs over the span of his career, portraying more than 220 characters, among them the arrogant advertising executive turned bear-wrestling psychopath Paul Jenson in William Girdler’s 1977 horror film Day of the Animals. The turning point came when he was cast as the poker-faced Dr. Shirley Rumack in the immensely popular spoof Airplane! (1980). Nielsen went on to play the hilariously inept police Detective Frank Drebin on the short-lived TV series Police Squad! (1982). In 1988, he hit it big when cast in the role in the full-length feature Naked Gun: Files From the Police Squad, along with its two successful sequels: Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994). After the release of Naked Gun 2 1/2, he capitalized on the films’ success by publishing a fictitious autobiography titled The Naked Truth (1993). In the early ’80s, Nielsen reinvented himself as a comedian, both in the big screen spoofs that became his trademark and hosting regular Three Stooges retrospectives on the program NYUK on AMC. In 1996, Nielsen’s renewed fame enabled him to pursue his dream project; he bought the play Clarence Darrow and embarked on a stage career and assumed the production’s title role, touring the U.S. and proving there was a serious actor behind the funny man. Nielsen returned to the slapstick genre, appearing in the spoof Titanic Too: It Missed the Iceberg (2000), and the sci-fi comedy 2001: A Space Travesty (2000). On November 28, 2010, Leslie Nielsen passed away in his sleep as a result of complications from pneumonia. His last film appearances were in 2009’s Spanish Movie, and the 2011 posthumously released spoof comedy Stonerville, in which he is credited as playing “Producer.”
