As a result, Leslie and her husband decided to adopt a child. Leslie received a phone call on her 11th marriage anniversary from a representative of the Edhi Foundation in Pakistan informing her that her son had just been born.

They boarded a 27-hour journey from Los Angeles to Karachi, Pakistan, stopping in Chicago and Manchester, England, because they were both eager to be there.
