Though he was born and raised in Kansas, Jim spent the most of his childhood in Silver Bay, Minnesota, where his family had moved while he was still an infant. Jim found his love for ice hockey while in high school, and after demonstrating exceptional ability as the school’s No. 1 goaltender, he was awarded a sports scholarship to the University of Alaska. After graduating from high school, Jim, then 18 years old, relocated to Anchorage, Alaska, where he resumed his ice hockey career at the collegiate level. Later on, however, he developed a strong interest in aviation, and in the early 1980s he obtained his pilot’s licence, rapidly shifting his attention away from the ice rink and onto planes. Tweto’s life, as well as his financial worth, started to suffer as a result of this choice very quickly.
Despite the fact that he possessed a pilot’s licence, Jim did not immediately pursue a career in aviation. Instead, he relocated to Unalakleet, where he established his own fishing boat manufacturing company, Gussik Ventures, which continues to this day. Jim, on the other hand, made the decision to devote his life to aviation in 1984, and after many years, he co-founded Hageland Aviation with his colleague Mike Hageland in 1990. Jim Tweto’s net worth was built on the success of all of his business endeavours.
