Fergus McFadden Injury
Hamstring injury rules McFadden out of Connacht clash.
Fergus McFadden injured his hamstring in the process of scoring Leinster’s third try against the Scarlets and will play no part in this weekend’s Pro14 derby trip to Connacht. The wing crashed over on the stroke of half-time at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, giving his side a 24-9 advantage in the Champions Cup semi-final they never looked remotely like relinquishing. He took a heavy knock from Steff Evans as he touched down however and was replaced at the break by Jordan Larmour.
After the game, Leo Cullen said: “It looks like it’s his hamstring. We’ll see how he is. I’m not 100% sure. We’ll get him a scan early in the week and get him an update then.”
Leinster confirmed that assessment on Monday, while also revealing that Luke McGrath (ankle) and Rhys (hamstring) will be further looked at during the week. Robbie Henshaw made a hugely impressive return to action at the Aviva and he has come through his first taste of action since the Six Nations unscathed. Henshaw had been on the sidelines since damaging his shoulder against Italy. Flanker Sean O’Brien’s season is over after he underwent shoulder surgery last Friday.
Fergus McFadden Married
Rugby star Fergus McFadden ties the knot with long-term girlfriend Rebecca Sinnamon.
Leinster and Ireland rugby pro Fergus McFadden is believed to have tied the knot with long-term partner Rebecca Sinnamon. Hot on the heels of fellow rugby star Iain Henderson, who wed his sweetheart Suzanne Flanagan in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by friends and family last weekend, the happy couple are believed to have exchanged vows yesterday, and to have held their reception in the lavish K Club in Kildare.
“To love, laughter & happliy ever after #TheMcFaddens” wrote Jess Redden, girlfriend of Leinster player Rob Kearney, in a picture she posted to Instagram.
“To Fergie and Rebecca” wrote Leinster and Ireland player Dave Kearney, with a photo of what looked to be a beautiful shoot of the pair in the gardens of their venue.
Other friends of the couple congratulated the pair via their Instagram stories, posting photos on the way to celebrate their nuptials. Kildare man McFadden popped the question to his long-term girlfriend Rebecca Sinnamon while they were on holiday in the summer last year, but avoided making a public announcement except for a photo of the sparkler on Facebook.
Fergus McFadden Rugby
Leinster’s Fergus McFadden scored a brace of tries in the Pro14 side’s heavy defeat of Irish provincial rivals Ulster last night, and it was that brilliant vein of form that continued on Twitter. It was a cold night in Dublin and the Leinster man’s non-bench teammates on the sidelines were forced to don blankets in a bid to keep warm. However, as McFadden was quick to highlight, clapping under said piece of material is not a great look.
McFadden wrote along with an accompanying video: “When the boys are happy with the performance…” McFadden is known as something of a funnyman in the Leinster environment, and he struck gold with his tweet. Kearney took it on the chin on his instagram account, writing: “I’d Like to formally apologise for my behavior last night, completely unacceptable. Some of the tries were just too good”
Fergus Mcfadden Contract
McFadden contract extension to boost under-pressure Leinster.
Fergus Mcfaddenlooks set to commit his future to Leinster and Ireland by signing a two-year contract extension with the European champions. The 26-year-old Kildare man had attracted interest from Premiership clubs in England and Top 14 outfits in France, but looks set to remain with his native province and build on the steady improvement he has shown in recent years.
McFadden has established himself as a regular in the blue jersey over the past three seasons and has been a consistent performer this campaign in a difficult year for the province. His next challenge is to become a more regular fixture in the starting Ireland team. He has won 16 caps since his debut against Italy in 2011, eight of which have come from the bench.
Initially a centre, McFadden has impressed as an explosive winger since adapting his game to play on the flank and his versatility has been valuable at both provincial and international level. The news comes as a welcome boost for Leinster coach Joe Schmidt, who is expected to welcome Rob Kearney and Brian O’Driscoll back into his match-day squad for tomorrow night’s trip to face Edinburgh.
Kearney has played just 32 minutes this season after injuring his back against Connacht in September, but he and Ireland captain O’Driscoll – who underwent an ankle operation in November – have made quicker-than-expected recoveries from surgery. Their return could give the European champions a major lift ahead of next week’s do-or-die Heineken Cup clash with the Scarlets at the RDS.

Irish rugby star Fergus McFadden pops the question to teenage sweetheart Rebecca Sinnamon
Wedding fever has swept the Irish rugby squad. Leinster and Ireland star Fergus McFadden is engaged to long-term girlfriend Rebecca Sinnamon. The 30-year-old popped the question in June while on holiday, but avoided making a public announcement except for a photo of the sparkler on Facebook. The couple are reportedly looking at walking up the aisle next July, according to the Irish Daily Mail.
McFadden and Sinnamon, a jazz singer who now teaches at BIMM Music School in Dublin, were teenage sweethearts and briefly split from 2011 to 2013 before reconciling in 2014. They followed in Cian Healy’s footsteps – who last year reunited with ex-girlfriend of six years Laura Smith. They won’t be short of advice for their big day as Ireland teammates Devin Toner, Keith Earls, Tommy O’Donnell and former Leinster player Eoin O’Malley have all wed in recent weeks.
