An Argentine man who operated a famous club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico’s Riviera Maya tourist area, was murdered by two shooters on January 26, 2022.
Federico Mazzoni was born in Córdoba, Argentina, but had lived in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, for the past 20 years.
Federico worked as a manager at Mamita’s club.

Federico Mazzoni was found dead in one of the club’s rooms with two bullets in his head. The murderers fled; thus, they were not detained.
Federico’s body was discovered in one of the Playa del Carmen club’s toilets.
The attack is thought to have taken place at approximately 5:30 p.m. [Mexico Standard Time]
Oscar Montes de Oca, the state prosecutor in Quintana Roo, said, “There are two guys, apparently from a local criminal structure, who enter [the club], talk to the manager, now the victim, take him to the bathrooms, and there they kill him.”
Mazzoni’s murder might be part of a larger pattern of criminal activity lurking in the same area.
In another shooting, two Canadian vacationers were killed inside the Xcaret Hotel last Friday.

Federico is from Argentina and decided to migrate to the Mexican coastline in 2002.
On February 14, 2021, he said on his Facebook account, “19 years ago, I arrived in this beautiful country. Thank you for all, my dear Mexico!”
Everyone described him as a nice, friendly person who had no enemies.
Jorge Marzuca, a prominent businessman in the neighborhood, owned Mamita’s Beach Club, and he was his right-hand man.

As per the prosecutor, the crime occurred when the club had few customers and was about to close.

Victor Hugo Vargas, a journalist and a friend of Federico, claimed today that he suspects drug trafficking organizations are involved.

According to investigations, the victims were tied to organized crime, and the attack was retribution.
However, the prosecutor ruled out the links between the Argentine and Canadian murders.
