Fauzi Nawawi Video Controversy Explained: What Did He Say About Raja Farah And Rape?
During a recent interview, actor Fauzi Nawawi apologised for making light of a rape scene in his previous films.
“I’d want to apologise to those who were harmed by the viral video on social media, particularly (actress) Raja Farah (Raja Aziz) and her husband (Ismail Iskandar),” he said in a four-minute Instagram video posted on his account on Tuesday (October 19) night.
Fauzi, who had just returned from a shooting session, said he freely accepted all of the accusations levelled against him.
“I didn’t mean to embarrass Raja Farah, and I don’t want to drag this out any longer,” he continued.
It had a caption attached to it “Kesilapan Mmg pada Saya. Maafkan atas kekhilafan dan kejahilan Saya,” (I made a blunder. Please accept my apologies for my blunder and ignorance).
He was referring to a recent interview in which he discussed how his character would rape Raja Farah’s character in a sequence from the 2007 film Anak Halal that was cut from the final cut.
Many Malaysians were outraged by Fauzi’s words on the talk program, and they chastised him for them.
Raja Farah and Ismail commented on the popular interview video a few hours before Fauzi released it on Instagram, expressing their disgust that Fauzi had made such a statement.
“I’d like to say it’s wrong on every level… he (Fauzi) didn’t respect women and shamed them,” Ismail added, adding that such a remark was inappropriate, especially if she was married. He said that responding to the viral video was “unnecessary and unpleasant” and “embarrassing.”
Ismail and Raja Farah both expressed their hope that people would stop talking about the problem and move on.
