Fan Favorite Troon Chef Sagar Massey Is Through To Quarter Finals On Masterchef Professionals

Chef Sagar Massey from Troon just made it to the quater-finals on Masterchef Professionals.

He is now one of the ten chefs who will compete in MASTERCHEF: THE PROFESSIONALS’ semifinals. He faced off against three other competitors to go to the show’s quarterfinals on BBC One.

At 8 pm on November 28, Sagar Massey, 23, will showcase his culinary skills on the 15th season of the popular BBC One show in an effort to advance to the competition’s next round.

He received his training at West College Scotland and is currently employed as a senior sous chef at Troon’s upscale Marine Hotel.

1. Sagar Massey Advances to the MasterChef Quarterfinals

In the last week’s episode of MasterChef: The Professionals, Sagar Massey competed against three other chefs and dazzled the judges with his culinary prowess.

The senior sous chef, who had previously resided in Paisley, created a unique chocolate mousse for the first task using the tried-and-true flavor combination of orange & ginger.

Each chef had to prepare a two-course meal of their own design for the second challenge, which was judged by three of the UK’s most seasoned food critics: Tom Parker Bowles, Tracy MacLeod, and Grace Dent.

With a carom seed curry sauce, Sagar’s first dish was citrus and saffron fennel, masala halibut, crispy spiced potato bonbon, and puffed wild rice.

Sagar’s pudding included white balsamic strawberries, goat’s curd, and fennel cream in addition to rose ghewar. After moving on to the next stage of the well-known TV contest, Sagar stated he was “over the moon.”

Sagar cooked well against three other chefs to advance to the quarterfinals, earning praise for his ability to remain composed under pressure and master fine dining techniques. Acclaimed chef Anna Haugh, MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace, and Michelin-starred chef Marcus Wareing all praised his performance.

2. The Chef Is Originally From India

Sagar resides in Johnstone, a Scottish town on the outskirts of Glasgow, but is originally from Bulandshahr, a town close to New Delhi in India. In 2014, Sagar moved to the UK from Bulandshahr, New Delhi, and has since received numerous accolades for his work.

Sagar received a gold medal at the 2019 Young Scottish Chef of the Year, won UK Young Seafood Chef of the Year, and was a finalist for Young National Chef of the Year in 2020 and 2021 while studying Professional Cookery at West College of Scotland.

In his early years, leaving his own country and moving to another must have been challenging for him. But given the achievements he has achieved, we may conclude that it was worthwhile.

3. Sagar Has Achieved Success At A Very Young Age

The fact that Sagar is only 23 years old and has achieved so much success at such a young age may be interesting to learn about. Additionally, despite being Indian, he was able to go to the quarterfinal of such a big show in the UK.

We can see that he has not let his age stop him from achieving things for which he is qualified, and the route to get there must have been quite tricky.

When asked about his favorite cuisine in an interview with The Staff Canteen, Sagar said he enjoys recreating things, but Indian cuisine is his absolute favorite. When questioned about his guilty pleasure dish, Sagar said that “Chole Bhature,” an Indian street food, was his guilty pleasure.

4. Sagar Cites His Parents As His Role Model

If you’re wondering where Sagar learned to cook, you should know that his father is a chef. Sagar looks up to his mother and father, the former of whom is a talented home cook and the latter a chef.

Sagar frequently updates his Instagram with photos of his loved ones. He can be found on Instagram by searching for @sagarmassey. His Instagram is filled with images of the delectable food he prepares, and his initial few posts are filled with pictures of his friends and family.

According to the pictures he has posted on Instagram, it appears that he has a sibling who is a father of two. Additionally, he has a heart-shaped part in his Instagram story. We learned from that story that he is engaged to a beautiful Indian woman. However, the post was uploaded more than a year ago.

Since he hasn’t posted anything about his marriage, we assume that he is still unmarried and has only become engaged. Additionally, he appears to be concentrating more on his career right now, but we hope to see him soon wed the love of his life.

5. A Peek Into His Career

Sagar, a senior commis chef at the Martin Wishart restaurant in Loch Lomond and the Isle of Eriska Hotel close to Oban, is currently employed at the Marine Hotel in Troon.

In addition to the Marine & Lawn Hotel in Troon, he has previously worked at Mar Hall Hotel Bishopston, Rusacks St. Andrews, and Cail Bruich Glasgow.

Sagar attended cooking school to become a chef, demonstrating his lifelong interest in the culinary arts. He received his training at the Paisley campus of West College Scotland and enjoyed preparing Indian cuisine with Scottish and British products.

In Sagar’s opinion, the best part of cooking is that you can prepare any food you want and come up with your own recipes. The worst part is the long hours and infrequent family time, which is fair given that he is so distant from his home country.
