Facundo Pellistri Wiki – Facundo Pellistri Biography

Facundo Pellistri is an Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a winger for Peñarol. Pellistri is a youth academy graduate of Peñarol and has played youth football with River Plate Montevideo and La Picada. He made his professional debut on 11 August 2019 in Peñarol’s 2–2 draw against Defensor Sporting. On November 6, 2019, he scored his first goal on a 3-1 win against Cerro.

Manchester United signed three players on transfer deadline day and, whilst lots is known about Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles, most won’t have seen Facundo Pellistri play.

If being quiet on deadline day is a mark of a team who have their life together then Monday for United certainly represented a team who’d lost 6-1 at home the day before.

As well as adding Telles and Cavani, two players who could have been signed weeks ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team failed with a bid for Ousmane Dembele.

Finally there were deals for two relatively unknown young wingers with Uruguayan Pellistri officially announced by the club at 11.33pm.

Most fans are unlikely to have seen much of the 18-year-old but fortunately there’s a compilation video to show them exactly what to expect at Old Trafford.

You have to feel somewhat sorry for the former Penarol winger, with fans hoping their team would sign Jadon Sancho and ending up with a young unknown player who will end up being judged against the failure to sign the club’s number one target.

Negativity can already be seen in the replies to the video, one fan commenting, “I could do what he’s doing in that league ffs.”

Another added, “I’m watching these highlights and you know what it reminds me of? Daniel James. All I’m seeing is speed with no end product.”

A third asked, “Are these highlights or low lights?” and a fourth merely stating, “Absolute state of this.”

Pellistri has already made 37 senior appearances for Penarol across all competitions, in the two seasons he’s been playing first team football, scoring just the one goal. He joined United for just €10 million.

Speaking to the club’s website on his arrival, the youngster said, “To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true. I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me. To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.

“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity and I am ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England.”

On his new signing Solskjaer said, “Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe that he will be a real talent for the long term. Whilst we understand it will take time for him to adapt to the English game, he is capable of having an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.”
