Fact Check: Is Rauw Alejandro Dead? Debunking the Online Rumor

28-year-old Rauw Alejandro Ocasio Ruiz, known professionally as Rauw Alejandro, is a singer and rapper from Puerto Rico.

He is an up-and-coming artist dubbed the King of Modern Reggaeton by the media. He has also been said to belong to a new generation of Puerto Rican urban musicians.

He has separated himself from the vast majority of male Reggaeton artists with the lead single “Todo de Ti” off his second studio album, Vice Versa, released in June 2021. Unlike an overwhelming number of Reggaeton songs, “Todo de Ti” adopts a more indie-pop vibe than the usual trap beats and thumping bassline.

Critics and fans alike have called “Todo de Ti” a breath of fresh air compared to many modern Reggaeton, precisely because of how unique and different it is. Before the release of 2021’s Vice Versa, he had released one album, Afrodisiaco, in November 2020.

He has been nominated for four Latin Grammy Awards and has won one. His first nomination was “Best New Artist” at the 21st Latin Grammy Awards in 2020. However, he lost this award to Mike Bahia.

Alejandro returned with a vengeance next year when he was nominated for three awards. His song “Todo de Ti” was nominated for Record and Song of the Year, but he lost to “Talvez” and “Patria y Vida.” However, Camilo won the Urban Performance award for his “Tatoo (Remix)” song.
