Sonya Deville’s Bio
Sonya Deville was born on September 24, 1993 in Shamong Township, New Jersey. His parents are of Italian descent. At birth, her name was Daria Berenato. Due to her fighting style, Sonya has been nicknamed the Jersey Devil.
During her school days, she attended Seneca High School in Tabernacle, New Jersey. She has two siblings. Shortly after graduating from high school, she switched to MMA and began training in it at the age of 17.
MMA Career
Sonya’s first MMA match was in March 2015, her debut in a match where she faced Jasmine Pouncy at MMA University lost by unanimous decision. She had a few more matches with MMA before deciding she would like to be in sports entertainment. His record in MMA is; 3 games, 2 wins and 1 loss.
She lost to Jasmine Pouncy as she beat duo Jeselia Perez and Allenita Perez, which made up her two MMA wins. To be precise, one of his victories was by knockout, the other by submission.
Sexual orientation of Sonya Deville
For many years, high-level wrestling was a male-dominated spectator sport, and it still remains so to a large extent. Over time, more female fighters appeared and the competition escalated. Even with the advent of women’s wrestling, the issue of fighters’ sexual orientation was never really addressed until Sonya Deville was the first openly gay woman in the wrestling world.
During an appearance on WWE Tough Enough, the company’s talent search show, the judges asked her if she was in a relationship and Deville replied, “I don’t have a wife yet, but I have a girlfriend.”
There were rumors that she was dating fellow wrestler, wrestling couple Mandy Rose live in the same apartment and are apparently best friends. There are plenty of photos of them on social media, but there is no concrete evidence that Mandy has a sexual interest in women.
Sonya however dated Christina Heath, the WBFFBikini Diva Pro. They started seeing each other in 2015, but broke up later that year. She is currently with Zahra Schreiber. In 2016, the couple started dating. They publicly revealed their relationship in 2018.
Career
Sonya’s WWE journey began when she was one of 13 finalists for the sixth season of WWE Tough Enough in June 2015. On a personal level, the competition didn’t go quite as she had hoped, herself a loser, she was the third to be ousted. Nonetheless, her performances left an impression and she landed a contract with WWE, aligning her with their developmental brand, NXT, in October 2015.
Her in-ring debut was against Nia Jax on December 20, a wrestling match which she lost on December 20. She’s had a series of ups and downs during her time at NXT. Fight in title fights and run on winning streaks in this time.
On November 20, 2017, she made her RAW debut alongside Mandy Rose and Paige. In this episode, they devastated the women’s division and the following week they were revealed as the team known as Absolution. His first televised match was on December 19 at Tribute to the Troops where Absolution defeated Bayley, MickieJames and Sasha Banks. She participated in the Royal Rumble, entering at number 10. Sonya was also a contender in the first match of the women’s playoffs.
In April 2018, when Paige was forced into retirement with medical issues related to her neck injuries and surgeries, she became General Manager of SmackDown. In the 2018 Superstar Shake-up, Rose and Deville were selected from Raw to SmackDown.
Sonya Deville co-hosted the show on YouTube AfterBuzz. She made her debut in the movie, The Honor. Her first appearance on a TV show in Tattoo Nightmares.
