Marvin Rees’ Parents And Family Background
Marvin Rees has mixed ethnicity as his parents have different origins. He was born to Jamaican Father and a White mother.
Rees’ British mother raised him in Bristol, as well as in Lawrence Weston and Easton. Rees claims that although “white privilege” exists, many people, including his mother’s family, do not benefit from it.
His great-grandmother was from Ireland, his grandfather was from South Wales and grew up in Merthyr Tydfil, and his mother was born to a poor Welsh miner who immigrated to Bristol.
In 2000, he earned a master’s degree in global economic development from Eastern University and political theory and government from the University of Wales in Swansea.

Marvin Rees Salary As A Mayor
Marvin Rees earns £17,500 a year as mayor and his £79,468 annual salary. However, on his register of interests, he also discloses a second additional source of income, which has never been made public.
He claimed that an impartial panel spends a significant amount of time examining the rate of pay of elected members, taking into account the job and comparable income in other authorities before proposing.
Marvin should work ten to fourteen hours a week as chair of the city regions board of the Local Government Association, in addition to his duties as mayor of Bristol.
However, Bristol’s residents deserve a mayor who can devote their full attention to the position. The West of England metro mayor, who is already unable to hold additional paid work, must follow the same rules as Bristol’s mayor.
