The Net Worth of Taryn Hatcher
As of early-2020, Taryn Hatcher’s net worth is estimated to be as high as $500,000 earned through a successful career in sports journalism. She’s worked with several companies, and has been featured in local publications thanks to her popularity in the field of sports broadcasting.
Early Life and Education
Taryn developed a strong love for sports at a very young age, mostly thanks to her family who were big fans of all the Philadelphia teams, because South Jersey is very close to where most of the Philadelphia games are held. She went to sports events, live events, and also watched sports at home. It was during this time that she discovered the work of sports reporters, and she aspired to the same career. She also became interested in Army and Navy games, as her brother went to study at the Naval Academy.
After matriculating from high school, she enrolled at Rutgers University to study for a degree in broadcast journalism.
The university is one of the oldest and largest higher education institutions in the country, and was one of the original universities to be founded during colonization. While there, she played with the university soccer team which competed in the NCAA Division III. She played center-midfield and central-defender, but after suffering a knee injury, she decided to move away from playing.
Career Beginnings
While in college, Hatcher got her first work opportunity at the restaurant Chickie’s and Pete’s where she was a waitress, which helped her earn additional income apart from her allowance.
She also took up an internship at iHeartRadio where she worked for the station’s social media platforms, and helped with production. The radio platform is known for its strong presence online, and its expansive presence across the US. The service offers various podcasts, on-demand music, a recommender system, and many other features.
She also did an internship with NBC Sports Philadelphia in a similar role, working mostly in the background as a part of the production. Following the completion of her degree, she was offered a position in Hawaii News Now.
This meant that she had to relocate to the more tropical state, as HNN serves the state of Hawaii, and is based in the capital of Honolulu. During her time there, she covered local news as well as international news. She enjoyed the vibe and the state’s accessibility to beaches among other tropical retreats, however, she wanted to fulfill her dream of being immersed with the sports teams of her youth.
Returning to Philadelphia
In 2018, NBC Sports Philadelphia announced that they were hiring Taryn as a reporter and host for their various programs. She had obtained the job easily due to her previous internship, and her passion for Philadelphia sports teams.
With her job, she started covering the various teams participating in major sports leagues from the area. These include the Philadelphia Flyers which compete in the National Hockey League (NHL), the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL), the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the Philadelphia Phillies which play in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Since joining the company, she’s been doing a lot of sideline reporting, often appearing in games for coverage, as well as conducting interviews with many of the locality’s professional athletes and staff.
Apart from the sports teams, she’s also occasionally covered other events for NBC, and as her popularity continued to grow, she found many other opportunities, including features in local publications. She was covered by “Philadelphia Style” in an article that featured some of her favorite spots in Philadelphia. She’s also occasionally travelled abroad.
Personal Life
It is known that Taryn is in a relationship with Austen Freeborn. He is an auditor who previously worked for the Bank of America. The two have been together for several years, and her social media showcases them together during big events such as holidays.
During her free time, she enjoys watching her favorite Philadelphia sports teams, even if she’s not there as a reporter. She mentions that the Eagles winning the Super Bowl was a bittersweet moment for her, as she was in Hawaii at the time of the event, and wasn’t able to get home. However, she celebrated the fact that her home team won against a powerhouse that is the New England Patriots.
She is also an advocate of local Philadelphia food, often going back to her old workplace Chickie’s and Petes.
She also loves eating soft pretzels, though its taste from Philadelphia is her favorite. While she no longer plays sports, she makes it a habit to go to the gym regularly, and emphasizes the importance of challenging yourself physically and mentally. Her job in front of the camera also means that she has to make a conscious effort towards looking the best she can.
She is also a big fan of art, and loves going to the Museum of Art in Philadelphia. Some of her most favorite pieces are Impressionist, known for their detail and use of light.
She is also a big foodie, plus loves staying up to date with the latest fashion trends. She can often be seen in trendy boutiques or wine-tasting events during her free time.
