Evander Kane Parents Perry And Sheri Kane Were Both Athletes

Evander Kane‘s parents, Perry and Sheri, were both athletes who competed in amateur boxing, hockey, and collegiate volleyball.

Well, Kane’s relationship with hockey is stereotypically Canadian, although he did not grow up in a stereotypically Canadian household.

The 31-year-old’s passion for hockey is linked to his bond with his father, Perry Kane, who spent most of his adult life shaping his son into a professional hockey player.

On July 20, 2009, the Atlanta Thrashers picked up Kane, who had previously played for the Vancouver Giants, with the fourth overall pick in the amateur draft and inked him to an entry-level deal.

In addition, Kane, who played for the Oilers for the first time on January 29, was sent to the hospital after sustaining a serious cut to his left wrist during his team’s victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Evander Kane Parents: Perry And Sheri Kane

Evander Kane’s parents, Perry and Sheri Kane, were tough when he was younger, but they are also the reason for his ongoing success in hockey.

He hails from a family of athletes: Sheri played professional volleyball, and following Perry’s junior hockey stint, he was an amateur boxer.

To raise a family, Perry and his wife Sheri—who played basketball and volleyball professionally—moved to East Vancouver.

Evander, named after American boxer Evander Holyfield, and his two younger sisters, Brea and Kyla, were athletes from the outset.

Kane’s childhood isn’t something he’s talked about much, although he claims his parents handed him trust money or something. He also remarked that he is blessed to have family members like them.

NHL Star Evander’s Father Also Played Hockey

Perry Kane, nicknamed “Chocolate Rocket” during his childhood hockey days in East Preston, Nova Scotia, endured racist taunts practically every time he walked onto the court.

After graduating from high school, Kane got tryouts for three illustrious junior hockey teams in the Ontario Hockey League, which is comparable to the SEC in college football.

Likewise, his father, Kane, says he was turned down because teams were surprised to learn he was black; the coach who put up the trials left out that aspect.

Kane, who had played junior A hockey in Nova Scotia, passed on his love of the sport to his son Evander at a young age by teaching him to skate.

Perry was determined that they wait until Evander was ten before enrolling him in organized hockey, but Evander’s mother, Sheri, covertly enlisted him when he was eight.

Nonetheless, Perry Kane hopped on board and became his coach, taking on an Earl Woods-like stance in his son’s quest for an NHL vocation.

His Workout Schedule With His Father

Evander began working out at a boxing facility with his father when he was 11 years old.

By the age of 14, he was working out in the gym for two hours every day, performing push-ups, pull-ups, step-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, heavy bags, speed bags, shadow boxing, and sparring.

In addition, Kane had his kid swim 30 laps in the pool three days a week.

His father had a dealership and sold automobiles on the side while also operating a bakery and a bread delivery service. Whereas his mother worked as a dental assistant.

Evander Kane Two Younger Siblings: Brea And Kyla

Kane’s parents were strict, with Evander and his two younger sisters, Brea and Kyla. They are two and four years younger than him and had to score A’s and B’s in school, respectively.

Even though Kane always earned the honor roll, he claims that his academically accomplished sisters “made him feel like he was getting Fs.”

Sheri and Perry gave their kids everything they had—hockey at the North Shore Winter Club for him and competitive dancing for the girls. Kane claims that the family had no funds.

Kane and his sisters shared a room on the upper level of the five-people’s rental in southeast Vancouver.

Brea and Kyla shared a bed, and Kane had his own on the other side of the room with a few of his hockey jerseys tacked on the wall above it.

In contrast, Brea and Kyla shared a bed, and Kane had his own on the other side of the room with a few of his hockey jerseys tacked on the wall above it. His side was painted blue, while the female’s side was light lavender.

Edmonton Oilers Player Evander Kane Cousin Brothers

Kane’s cousin, Dwayne Provo, played seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) before joining the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL).

During the 2006 Nova Scotia general election, he ran for the Progressive Conservatives in Preston but lost to Liberal Keith Colwell.

As a candidate in 2009, he came in third behind Colwell and the New Democrat Janet Sutcliffe.

Another cousin, Kirk Johnson, competed in boxing for Canada at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona before fighting against John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight championship in 2002.

Johnson competed against Vitali Klitschko, a future champion from Ukraine, on December 6, 2003, at Madison Square Garden in New York. Klitschko easily knocked him out in the second round, winning the fight.

On December 6, 2003, Johnson squared off against Vitali Klitschko, a future champion from Ukraine, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Johnson initiated a long legal battle against the Halifax Regional Police after withdrawing from a planned bout against then-heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis due to an injury in 2003.

During the investigation, Johnson alleged that the Halifax Regional Police stopped his automobile 28 times in five years due to prejudice and racial profiling.

His Uncle Leonard: A Member Of Canadian Ball Hockey Hall Of Fame

Kane’s uncle, Leonard Kane, was born in East Preston, Nova Scotia, in 1962 and is a member of the Canadian Ball Hockey Hall of Fame.

He started playing street hockey when he was ten years old and used to rehearse in the basement, which was filled with beer bottles.

Leonard’s father would build the home, and because it took him so long, I’d arrange all these bottles in a zigzag and attach a handle through them before shooting it in the net.

Moreover, he is a married man who has a grown-up son who played football at St. Mary’s University.
