Shira Is An Israeli Actress

Coming from a family of artists, it is no wonder she devoted her time to directing and acting.

She started as a performer with notable appearances in BeTipul and other films. But her time in front of the camera got cut short, as she quickly found her calling after writing and directing two films, Jellyfish and Self Made.

Indeed, her collaborations with her husband had shown the most success with their project Jellyfish, winning the Caméra d’Or prize for best first feature at Cannes in 2007. They have formed a chaotic relationship, with her making fun of his early morning ideas.

In 2020, they collaborated again when they wrote the story Waiting for Miracles.

Her work as an activist also gets commended, not fearing to be called a traitor and calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza.

Etgar Keret Mother And Father Were From Poland

Etgar Keret mother Orna Keret and father Efraim Keret were from Poland. Keret was born in Ramat Gan, Israel in 1967.

He was the third child of the bunch and studied at Ohel Shem high school. His childhood was not lacking in any shape or form, but he had to come to terms with the history of his ancestors.

He may have escaped from experiencing the genocide, but his parents were not so fortunate.

In an interview with Granta, he talked about how his parents unintentionally taught him to be thankful for every cucumber he got and never to deny food.

It took him years to find his calling, writing his first story at nineteen. He was doing his compulsory army time as he thought the price of writing would somehow save his life. He recalled penning his first fiction as a soldier as he sweated buckets before completing it.

His Mother

A devastating day came in 2019 when Keret announced that his mother had passed away in late August.

She was his inspiration, and his ray of light as the passing made him stop authoring. He was sure his mental health would decline in the upcoming days and asked for a bit of privacy from his followers.

Orna escaped from Poland and saw the atrocities done by the dictators firsthand when she was only 14 years old. She saw her mother and brother get killed before her eyes, as her father followed a year later. But they did their best for her to live normally, giving her the gift of stories during wartime.

His Father

Keret felt his world shatter when his dad Efraim Keret got his terminal cancer diagnosis.

The reports said that he had developed a tumor on the base of his tongue, as they were no ultimatums. The chemotherapy could only prolong his time for a few months, resulting in an inevitable demise.

At eighty years old, he was not ready to give up on life, asking the physicians to cut off his tongue to see another sunrise. He only needed his eyes to see his grandchildren. But cancer had spread too much as the 65 years of nonstop smoking had come to collect their due.

Like his mother, Efraim barely escaped his nation as he and his parents spent two years hiding in a hole. They relaxed after the Russian rescued them, but his legs had atrophied.
