Erykah Badu Sister Koryan Wright Is A Musician

Erykah Badu sister Koryan Wright is a musician and singer from Texas. 

Wright combines rock and hip-hop, adding a funky twist to make her signature singing style that she likes to call Hoodrok. She has released two tracks, Cry Me A River and Redemption (Unmastered), according to LastFm.

Both of her songs are available for streaming on LastFm’s websites. They are also available in Itune. Furthermore, Udab has set up a personalized radio for her fans and followers on Spotify. The 3 hours and 45 minutes long playlist contains 50 songs from different artists, including Charlotte Adigéry, Bolis Pupul, and Indian Summer. 

Her moniker Nayrok Udab is made by spelling her birth name, and her Queen of Neo Soul sibling’s adopted last name backward. She was inspired to pursue singing at an early age by her mother’s record collections.

Udab started slow and became a member of her church choir first. She later joined Maureen F. Bailey Concert Choir in Dallas, Texas.

Nayrok is doing fine in her career as a singer, but she is also making equally impressive progress as Erykah’s backup singer. The siblings often tour together around the country. In fact, the duo will be performing together at The Factory in Deep Ellum in Dallas, Texas, on February 24, 2023.

Koryan and Erykah have an age difference of three years between them. 

Nayrok is 48 years old as of January 2023. She was born on March 30, 1974, in Dallas, Texas. She grew up playing with her two other siblings in her childhood. As they were raised by a single mother, Koryan, Erykah and Eevin often spent most of their time with their maternal and parental grandmothers.

She is also known as Koko among her family members and close friends. Koko got involved in a severe car accident in 1999, changing most parts and aspects of her life. The incident broke both her legs and had to spend two years in rehabilitation.

However, the rehab stay turned out to be a positive influence on the aspiring singer. She became more mentally and musically stable than ever before. The ending quote which Koryan never forgets to speak out after her show came during the rehabilitation time.

On the other hand, Erykah is 51 years old. She was born on February 26, 1971, in Dallas, Texas.

Information about their brother’s age and date of birth has not come to the surface. He does not share much spotlight.

Nayrok and Chris got married in September 2022.

Koryan shared an image with her husband in September 2022 on Facebook and the comment section of the post quickly filled with congratulations and best wishes from her family, friends, and followers. 

Although she has not shared any images from the ceremony, her friends revealed in the comment section that they had a beautiful intimate wedding over the third weekend of September 2022. Moreover, she has not shared anything about the wedding on her Instagram account as well. 

Chris has appeared three times on Nayrok’s social media posts since their marriage, but he has not revealed anything about himself. The singer had previously shown off her beautiful and sparkling engagement ring on a Facebook post on June 21, 2021. Her engagement to the then-mystery man also received congratulatory comments.

Erykah and Koryan also have a brother named Eevin Wright in the family. 

Eevin works closely with Erykah and Koryan as their merchandise manager and often accompanies them on tours around the country. He is their younger brother and is famously known as Lil Badu and Dookie Loud among his family members and fans.

The merchandise manager has a daughter named Yannie Pooh. He was seen with his daughter in a Facebook post made by Koryan. The father and daughter duo appear to get along rather well together. 

Apart from managing all the merchandise for his sibling, Eevin was also a part of Erykah’s album Worldwide Underground. Eevin helped the singer to record the album, according to Erykah-Badu.

Erykah Badu was born to her mother Kolleen Maria Gipson and her father William Wright Jr.

Badu’s mother was influential in Erykah’s life to start her career in showbiz. Her mother worked as an actress in local theaters to put the bread on the table, while her children were looked after by their grandmother.

Erykah got the taste of showbiz at the tender age of just 3 or 4 years old when she accompanied her mother to theaters to dance and sing. According to Erykah-Badu, Erykah’s father William moved out of the family when they were just children. In their father’s absence, Kolleen worked hard as an actress to raise her three children. 

However, Kolleen had plenty of help from her mother and her children’s parental grandmother. Her mother Thelma Gipson and her baby daddy’s mother Viola Wilson helped to take care of the three siblings in their childhood.

The singer’s former partner Andre 3000 wrote a song titled Ms. Jackson which was an open apology letter to Kolleen after breaking up with her daughter according to Okayplayer. The song even won a Grammy Award for Andre 3000.
