Ernest Bai Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Ernest Bai Koroma (born October 2, 1953) has served as President of Sierra Leone since 2007. He is the country’s fourth and current president. In his professional life, Koroma is an insurance executive who worked in the private insurance sector for more than twenty-four years before joining the political arena in 2002. The Reliance Insurance Trust Corporation, where Koroma worked from 1988 until 2002, was his employer at that time (Ritcorp). He received his bachelor’s degree in 1976 from Fourah Bay College, which is the oldest institution in West Africa. Born in Bombali District, in Sierra Leone’s northern region, Koroma is a member of the Temne ethnic group and a resident of the Bombali District. [3] On March 24, 2002, Koroma was chosen as head of the All People’s Congress (APC), which was then Sierra Leone’s major opposition party, after beating then incumbent APC leader Edward Turay, who had been his primary opponent. In the 2002 presidential election in Sierra Leone, Koroma ran as the APC’s candidate, but he was beaten by incumbent President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, who received 70.3 percent of the vote to Koroma’s 22.35 percent [4] of the vote. [5] Koroma has surrendered the loss. Koroma was subsequently elected to the Sierra Leonean Parliament, where he served from 2002 to 2007, representing his home district of Bombali.

As the minority leader of Parliament in 2005, he held that post until his election to the Presidency of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2007. APC candidate Koroma ran for re-election as president of the country in the 2007 presidential election. His 54.6 percent victory in a tight run-off against incumbent Vice President Solomon Berewa, the nominee of the then governing Sierra Leone People’s Party, ensured that he would become the country’s next president (SLPP). [6]. [7] On September 17, 2007, the same day that Koroma was proclaimed the winner, Berewa accepted defeat and Koroma was sworn in as President at the State House in Freetown, the country’s capital. Both international and local election observers pronounced the election to be free and fair. [8] President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, who had served the maximum two five-year terms allowed by the constitution, was replaced by Koroma. Kabbah was unable to run for president again because he had served the maximum two five-year terms allowed by the constitution. As part of his inaugural address, Koroma pledged to combat corruption and misuse of the country’s resources, and he said that he would tolerate no such behaviour. [9] [10]. During the APC National Delegates Convention, held in the northern city of Makeni on April 16, 2009, Koroma was re-elected by the party’s delegates as its presidential candidate for the 2012 presidential election, defeating all other candidates. In the presidential election held in November 2012, Koroma was re-elected for a third term as President, earning 58.7 percent of the vote against his major opponent, SLPP candidate Julius Maada Bio, who got 37.4 percent. Koroma is now in his last term as President. [11] [12][13] [14][15] International observers judged the election to be free and fair, according to their findings. [16] [17] [18] [16] [17] [18] [16]
