Erling Haaland: I could have scored five goals vs Leeds

After scoring twice to help Manchester City to a 3-1 win at Leeds and a return to second place in the Premier League, Norwegian forward Erling Haaland expressed regret that he hadn’t scored five goals in the city of his birth.

Haaland grew up in Yorkshire, where his father Alfe Inge played for Leeds, but he spared no compassion when City rekindled their title hopes. The team coached by Pep Guardiola recovered from a shocking loss to Brentford just before the World Cup to close the gap to Arsenal to five points.

Despite scoring 20 goals for City in the Premier League in just 14 games since joining the club, Haaland is not happy with his performance because he was unable to score on three one-on-one opportunities against Illan Meslier.

“I could’ve scored five, that’s the truth. We win, that’s the most important thing. You see Arsenal at the top now, we have to hunt them, but for me as a striker, I could’ve scored a couple more. That’s life, I have to practise more,” Haaland said.

The City star refused to celebrate, a nod to his background with Leeds, but it didn’t prevent him from scoring twice on the night, both off of assists from Grealish “I have to say, it’s a really special moment in my career.  It was in my craziest fantasy I could think of to be at Elland Road and score for Manchester City against Leeds,” Haaland said.
