Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to
apply for a Eritrean Visa.
- A duly completed and signed visa application form.

Facts about Eritrea
Eritrea is home to a large number of wildlife and the regulations enforced by the Eritrean government has helped to steadily increase the number of wildlife animals. There are various species of mammals and 560 species of birds. While in the country you can see wonderful animals like the Abyssinia hare, African wild cat, Black-backed jackal, African golden wolf, Lions, African bush elephants and a host of others. Other attractions in Eritrea include Tank Graveyard, Opera house, Imperial Palace, etc. Tourists are sure to enjoy their time in the country.
Tourism in Eritrea is not as dominant as it used to be in the previous century. Although, the government is putting in a very big effort to develop the country’s tourism and make it better than what it was.
Visitors are not allowed to take photographs of military and government buildings. If you want to exchange money, it should be done at a state foreign currency exchange Himbol branch, it is illegal to do it anywhere else. All foreign currencies in excess of $10,000 should be declared on entry into Eritrea.

Eritrea Tourist Visa Eligibility &
Requirements
- The Eritrean tourist visa is issued to Malaysians traveling to Eritrea for tourism and visitation purposes.
- The Eritrean tourist visa is valid for 90 days.
- Visa is not required for minors under 18 years of age if accompanied by parents holding a National ID Card issued by Eritrea.
- Visitors who overstay their visas will face severe punishments.
- For applicants traveling for visitation purposes, they should provide an invitation letter.
- Visitors are required to provide proof of sufficient funds to cover their entire stay in Eritrea. This should come in form of bank statements.
- Applicants are required to provide proof of yellow fever vaccination.
- Travelers are required to declare amounts over $10,000 USD.
- Strict restrictions are in place for the type and quantity of electronics allowed into the country. Check with the Eritrean Ministry of Finance on the most current regulations. All electronic items (e.g. laptops, mobile phones, cameras) must be declared upon arrival.
- Customs officials may confiscate previously undeclared items when you depart. Non-residents may need to show that they are leaving Eritrea with the declared electronics in their possession.
- Visitors must save all receipts for purchases and foreign exchanges and present these upon departure. Failure to report foreign currency or electronics, or meet customs requirements can result in confiscation of possessions, fines, and imprisonment.
- Visitors are required to obtain permits for travel more than 25 km outside of Asmara. Applications for travel permits are available at the two Ministry of Tourism offices located on Harnet Avenue and Airport Road.
- Visitors generally are not permitted to approach or cross the Djibouti-Eritrea land border.
- You may be subject to certain obligations, including taxes and conscription into national service. You need proof of payment of the 2 percent income tax to obtain any civil documents (e.g. birth certificates, educational transcripts, property ownership records, court records).
- The Eritrean Nakfa (ERN) is the official currency. The economy is cash-based and there are no ATMs.
- Credit cards are not accepted anywhere. It is illegal to use foreign currency to make purchases except at a few official hotels where foreigners are required to pay in U.S. dollars or Euros.

Requirements
- The Eritrean business visa is for Malaysia intending to visit Eritrea for business purposes.
- Proof of yellow fever vaccination must be provided.
- A business letter from the sending company in Malaysia or the sponsoring company in Eritrea is required.
- The business letter from the sending company in Malaysia must have the following requirements:
- Brief introduction of the applicant (that includes the position held in the company by the applicant).
- Nature of business to be conducted.
- Guarantee of sufficient funds for the travel.
- A letter of invitation written on the company’s letterhead should also be provided. The letter should state the duration and purpose of your visit.
- If the travel expenses of applicants would be taken care of by the company in Eritrea, it should be stated in the letter provided by the company.
- A letter from your current employer indicating your employment status and position held in the company is needed too. This letter should also state the purpose of your visit to Eritrea.
- A certificate of business registration of the company in Malaysia should be submitted with other documents.
