Erik Van Looy Biography
Erik Van Looy is a Belgian film director known for his thriller movies. He is also a popular television host in Flanders, hosting De Slimste Mens ter Wereld ‘The Smartest Person on Earth’, he has also hosted De Pappenheimers.
The former is a television show aired on VIER where he judges with his team of comicalare on a quest to find the world’s smartest person or the one who is smart in politics, history, arts, sports, media and film. The Alzheimer Case and Loft, which is his most famous films have been widely appreciated by the Flemish audience as well as by the Flemish critics, Loft being the best watched Flemish movie in theaters up to todate. Loft has a Dutch remake in the Netherlands which was also a success.
This resulted into an American remake which was also highly liked by the Flemish audience and critics, but not by the American critics due to a cultural difference between the United States and Flanders/Netherlands. As he pointed out in Flanders/Netherlands cheating on someone is not considered to be a big deal as long as you still love your partner, where in the US it caused the main characters not likable to the American audience.
