Eli Matthewson And Dancing Partner Johnny Williams Are Becoming Gay Icons With Their Dancing With The Stars NZ Appearance

Eli Matthewson, a comedian who has spent years joking about his life as a gay man, will feature as a gay icon alongside Johnny Williams on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. Let’s have a look at the article and find out a little more about him.

Even though Covid-restrictions prevented the series from being created in 2020 and 2021, Dancing With The Stars NZ is back, and this year will finally have a same-sex pairing, due to the entry of a comedian Eli Matthewson.

The two-time Billy T Award candidate, double winner of the Auckland Fringe’s Best Comedy Award, and winner of New Zealand’s most prestigious comedy award, The Fred, will collaborate with ballroom veteran Jonny Williams in their new show.

Are Eli Matthewson And Partner Johnny Williams Gay & Proud?

Co-host of The Edge Breakfast and award-winning comedian Eli Matthewson says he is thrilled to be a member of the first same-sex couple to compete on the popular prime-time show Dancing with the Stars New Zealand.

He believes it’s past time for boys to dance with boys on the show, and he can’t believe it hasn’t been done before this point. Even though he finds it intimidating, he appreciates the message it sends out to LGBT youngsters.

Same-sex relationships have occurred on the franchise in Europe, as well as in Australia in 2019, where former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Courtney Act and her partner Joshua Keefe ruled the season.

Matthewson and Williams follow in the footsteps of YouTuber Jojo Siwa, who was a part of the first same-sex pairing on Dancing With The Stars US, and Olympic boxer Nicola Adams and television presenter John Whaite, who were respectively a part of the first female and first male same-sex pairing on Strictly Come Dancing, the United Kingdom’s version of Dancing With The Stars.
