Eddie rose to fame as the lead vocalist of The O’jays. His passion for music developed at a younger age. Therefore, Eddie sang in church, school plays and performed regularly on a gospel radio show. The O’Jays was signed with Philadephia International Records in 1969. Later, Eddie began co-writing and producing the band’s songs with Williams.

In 1984, Eddie’s two sons (Gerald and Sean) decided to follow their father’s footsteps in music while they were still in high school. The two met Marc Gordon and recoded their first songs under the LeVert group name. After the death of Gerald, Eddie and Gerald’s album titled Something To Talk About was released in 2007.

In 2008, Sean Levert died due to a wrong drug overdose. The same year his father was presented with the Best Duo Image Award. The O’Jays was also awarded the Lifetime BET Achievement Award.
