Ed Wynn (November 9, 1886 – June 19, 1966) was an American comedian and actor best known for his Perfect Fool comic persona, his pioneering radio programme of the 1930s, and his latter career as a dramatic actor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Brooklyn, New York.
Wynn started his performing career in vaudeville in 1903 and went on to become a star of the Ziegfeld Follies in 1914. When Wynn was doing his “Pool Room” act beneath the table during The Follies of 1915, W. C. Fields is said to have caught him mugging for the crowd under the table and then knocked him out with his cue. As a result of his work on Broadway over the next few decades, he became well-known for his amusing costumes and props, as well as for the giggly and wavering voice he created for the 1921 musical revue The Perfect Fool (which he also wrote, directed, and produced).
