In 1956, the New York Giants were able to trade Alvin Dark to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Red Schoendienst because to the addition of Ed Bressoud, a steady shortstop with exceptionally fluid fielding skills. Only two of his six seasons with the Giants were spent as their regular shortstop, but in his three years with the Boston Red Sox, where he hit 20 home runs in 1963, he was successful because he adjusted his swing to Fenway Park’s left field wall.
Bressoud’s career came to an end in the 1967 World Series as a utility player for the Cardinals against the Red Sox after Rico Petrocelli’s 1965 debut rendered him expendable.
He managed minor league teams and conducted scouting for the California Angels after retiring from playing.
