The Atlanta Braves won the World Series last season for the first time since 1995. Sadly, one of the members of that legendary championship team from 1995 has passed away.
The passing of veteran outfielder Dwight Smith was revealed by the Braves on Friday. Age-wise, he was 58.
With 111 hits in 109 games after making his major league debut with the Cubs in 1989, Dwight Smith made an immediate impression. Ironically, Jerome Walton, a member of his own club, would win the Rookie of the Year award.
Smith played regularly with the Cubs through 1993 until experiencing a slump in 1994. The following year, he joined the Braves after playing for the Baltimore Orioles and California Angels that year.
In the 1995 postseason, Smith found his footing as a pinch hitter, recording three hits in seven at-bats, including a crucial RBI in a 5-4 NLDS victory over the Colorado Rockies.
