Dwayne Johnson’s father
Some would say The Rock has “struggle” in his blood, and boy are they right. The wrestler-turned-actor was born into the home of Ata Johnson (née Maivia) and professional wrestler Rocky Johnson. Rocky was actually born to Wayde Douglas, but we guess that wasn’t a very exciting wrestling name. So, in 1964, he legally changed his name to Rocky Johnson, which explains why The Rock’s full name is Dwayne Douglas Johnson.
Rocky is a black Nova Scotian, but at the age of 16 he moved to Toronto to pursue his wrestling dreams. Believe it or not, it was the struggle that connected him to his wife, Ata. Ata’s father, High Chief Peter Maivia, was also a wrestler, and alongside his wife, Lia Maivia, he built Polynesia Pacific Pro Wrestling.
Maivia and Rocky were tag team partners in the indie scene, and that’s where he met Ata. Against her father’s wishes, she married the wrestler and soon after, on May 2, 1972, Dwayne was born. The family moved around a lot, as do most struggling families, but that ended when Dwayne was 14.
They moved to Honolulu permanently while Rocky continued to travel for his trade. It was hard work, and despite Rocky’s successes in the ring, he didn’t raise enough funds for the family. Dwayne told The Hollywood Reporter, “We lived in a $120 a week cost economy. We come home with a padlock on the door and an eviction notice. My mom starts yelling. She just started crying and breaking down. “Where are we going to live? What are we going to do?’
Meanwhile, Rocky continued to stand up for himself and his family and it paid off. Although he no longer wrestles, he is still considered wrestling royalty and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame along with his father-in-law “High Chief” Peter Maivia by The Rock. In addition to this great honour, he is the first non-Samoan to be appointed Grand Chief. His title is Grand Chief Tafiaiafi.

Dwayne Johnson’s mother
She was born, Feagaimaleata Fitisemanu Maivia and she hails from a prolific Samoan wrestling family. Yeah, we’ll just go with Ata, because that’s a long name. His father was the big boss ”Peter Maivia and his mother, Lia Maivia, was one of the few female promoters of wrestling.
It was not at all strange when she fell in lovewrestler, coming from a family like hers. Life as a wrestler’s wife wasn’t glamorous and her dad knew it when he voiced his disapproval of her union with Rocky, but the heart wants what it wants, until that’s not what happens anymore. . In 2003, her marriage to Rocky Johnson ended and we assume they’ve both been flying solo ever since.
Ata has been a driving force in the development of his life and we know for sure that he doesn’t mess with her. Dwayne had to face the possibility of losing his mother and cousin in a fatal car accident in 2014. He posted a photo of the accident with the caption below.
“My mum and cousin @Linafanene were hit head-on by a drunk driver this week – they were living. The first reaction is to find the person who did this and hurt them relentlessly. But then you realize the most important thing is that my family has been through this and we can hug each other much more tightly these days. Hold your family in your arms and be grateful to be able to tell them that you love them. ‘
Although no lives were lost, the new car the actor bought for his mother was beaten beyond repair. Since The Rock is a guy who sees the glass half full, he used this as an excuse to get her a new one in his favorite color. We can spot this mama’s boy a mile and a half away.
