Early Life
Mdumiseni Nzimande, also known as Dumi Mkokstad, was born to Falithenjwa and Dudu Nzimande, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province on the 7th of May, 1992.
He grew up with two brothers and sisters, and got acquainted to music early.
Aged 9, Dumi joined his father and siblings to sing at store openings and funerals in his hometowns, Mount Ayliff and Kokstad.
During one of his performance, he was discovered by music promoter, Hamilton Kubashe.
Education
Dumi Mkokstad attained academic prowess at school. He was also amongst the best of his time. His passion for music made him delve into the profession quite early.
Career
The award-winning gospel artiste started his career as a prodigy. He released his first album, Dumi Mkokstad, in 2003, only aged 11.
In 2010, he joined Big Music and became one of South Africa’s best gospel artistes. He has worked with other elite artistes such as Jaziel Brothers, Hlengiwe Mhlaa, Bethusile Mcinga, Thinah Zungu and many others.
His recent album, ‘Ebeke Walunga u Thixo‘, was also a top hit after its release in 2018. Dumi‘s songs; Safa Naye and uLwandle has enabled him win accolades.
He has released multiple albums during his time as an artiste, spanning over 17 years. Some of them are; Angikamboni (2005), Africa Classics (2008), Kuphelele (2014), Egameni LikaJesu (2017) and Ebeke Walunga u Thixo‘ (2018).
Personal Life
Dumi Mkokstad got married to Ziphozenkosi Mthembu on the 6th of June, 2019. He proposed to her at the Eastern Cape after a lengthy friendship that lasted for 12 years.
The gospel artiste spends his time writing and recording songs. He also travels frequently for performances in gospel events around Southern Africa.
