Duke Devils Forward Dariq Whitehead Is Recovered With The Love And Care Of His Parents

Dariq Whitehead had his parents, Quadira Whitehead and Derrick Miller, worried after his recent injuries. Although Dariq has recovered mostly after receiving his father and mother’s care, he still won’t be able to play in the upcoming match for the Dukes.

The basketball from Duke has repeatedly mentioned their sacrifices to raise him and his siblings. His mother, Quadira, mentioned she had to be prepared if she wanted her five kids to be more productive.

Being the nephew of former NFL defensive end Willie Whitehead and the younger brother of Tahir Whitehead, a professional football linebacker, Dariq was exposed to sports at a young age.

Following in the footsteps of his brother and uncle, he entered the world of sports but chose the field of basketball. During his high school years, he was selected to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game in 2022. Later, on August 1, 2021, he chose Duke over Florida State, Kansas, and the NBA G League.

Recently, Duke announced that freshman wing Dariq Whitehead underwent surgery to heal a right foot fracture. Besides the statement that he is “expected to play this autumn,” there is no official timeline for his comeback.

Dariq Whitehead Parents: Quadira Whitehead & Derrick Miller

Duke Devils Forward Dariq Whitehead was born to his parents, Quadira Whitehead and Derrick Miller. His mother, who works for Newark Public Schools, attended Essex County College as mentioned on her Facebook page.

The basketball star has a close relationship with his parents, especially with his mother. She has dedicated her life to ensuring that her children—Quaheem, Tahir, Janavia, Dariq, and Asher—have the finest chances life has to offer, despite their challenging circumstances.

As a young mother, she faced adversity by seeking the strength and discipline athletics provided for her children. Besides, she is active on Facebook, and her page mostly features images of her kids and family. On the other hand, few facts are known about his father Derrick.

His Mom Quadira Was A Teen-Mom When She Raised Her Children

Whitehead’s mother, Quadira was a teen mother who gave birth to her three children early. She had her first child at the age of 14, then at 16, and finally at the age of 18.

His grandmother did everything they could to provide for her, but it was always vital to her that she built a path for her children to achieve.

According to Ebony, she partially achieved this by enrolling her children in sports. Fighting, stabbings, and shootings are all common occurrences in the communities where they lived, and had faced moments when they had to halt, drop, and roll to safety.

She was always concerned about her children getting struck by a stray bullet while sitting on the front porch. So she reasoned that if she kept them busy with anything constructive, they wouldn’t have much opportunity to engage in anything unpleasant.

Quadira’s Sons And Daughter Made her Proud

Whitehead’s mom’s route to motherhood was arduous, but she handled it effectively and assisted her children in determining their professional paths.

Her plan to keep her children productive paid off in the end, as her second eldest kid is now in the NFL and her son is on the verge of playing professionally.

Similarly, her daughter was also a cheerleader during her high school days. So sports were crucial in keeping her children engaged.

Quadira often says that her oldest three children grew up together and reared one another. They guided her on how to be a parent because we all know that children do not come with manuals.

However, she raises her two younger children. She had acquired the skills to support their success at that point thanks to her experiences with her older kids, as per Ebony.

Dariq’s Brother Tahir Whitehead Bought New Home For His Mother

Tahir Whitehead, a Raiders linebacker, took advantage of an opportunity in 2018 to deliver his mother, Quadira, the ultimate gift: a new house. Competing in the NFL gives many people what they want on a daily basis: money, visibility, opportunities, and so on.

He just wanted to pay back his mother for all those sacrifices she made for him and his siblings. AS such, he simply wanted to offer her a house as a mark of his appreciation, love, and the fact that she was doing what moms do.

Many youngsters dream of the opportunity to buy their parents a home, a tough endeavor that took Whitehead six seasons in the NFL to do.

Dariq Left His Family Behind To Enroll At Montverde Academy

When Dariq was in the eighth grade, Whitehead decided to leave his hometown of Newark, NJ, and relocate to Florida alone.

The 6-6 wing, just 13 years old, chose to join Montverde Academy, a basketball powerhouse with graduates like D’Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons, leaving behind family and friends.

The move allowed him to play nationally while also placing him in a unique position to grow among a slew of potential NBA draft choices.

Furthermore, Whitehead recalls it as the most difficult decision he had ever made, owing to his reliance on his family. And being alone was hard for him since he had to manage everything from dishwashing to learning to exist independently.
