Phillip Calvin McGraw widely known as Dr. Phil was born on September 1, 1950 in Vinita, Oklahoma, USA. His parents are Joseph J. “Joe” McGraw Jr. and Anne Geraldine Stevens. He is the third out of four children, the others being girls. Her sisters are named Deana, Donna and Brenda McGraw. His father providing oil drilling equipment, so Dr. Phil and his three sisters were raised in the oil fields of North Texas. He attended high school at Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kansas, where he continued his studies at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In college, he was interested in football and played as a linebacker. After earning a doctorate in clinical psychology, Dr. Phil, as everyone expected, started training, but since he didn’t progress, he decided to branch out a bit. He began helping trial attorneys prepare their cases based on the subject of the investigation. It would determine, based on the behavior of the accused, the suspects or even the plaintiffs, the best line of defense or the argument of the prosecution to oppose. In 1989, Courtroom Sciences Incorporated (CSI) was created. He is co-founder of the latter alongside Gary Dobbs, lawyer. The firm has handled the cases of major global corporations, helping them collect debts and win lawsuits involving millions of people.
He dedicated his time to CSI and that decision was made. He met Oprah Winfrey and helped her win a lawsuit against ranchers in the Amarillo Texas lawsuit that started in 1995 and ended in 1998. After winning winning the lawsuit, she decided to host Dr. Phil on one of his shows as a way to say thank you.
