Never undervalue a vacation’s ability to transform your life. Doutzen Kroes, a Dutch supermodel, describes her vacation to Kenya as “love at first sight with the Douglas-Hamiltons, but it was also love at first sight with the elephants.”
She went to the country’s Samburu National Reserve, where the mother-daughter team of Oria and Saba Douglas-Hamilton runs the Elephant Watch Camp.
Kroes was similarly enthralled as she observed her son, who was four at the time, sit riveted by the elephants for two hours.
Along with the more beautiful aspects of the trip, Kroes also learned about the poaching that was destroying the elephant population.
She adds, “I returned filled with so much rage, but also with so much awareness about how we have to stop this.”
After the tour, she met with Trish Goff and David Bonnouvrier, the founders of DNA Model Management, and agreed to serve as a worldwide ambassador for their nonprofit organization Knot On My Planet.
