She graduated from Colorado Academy. She began winning national junior competitions when she was 12, and began competing at the senior level when she was 15. She was the U. S. Champion from 1974 to 1976, and won the Gold Medal at the 1976 Olympics. She then went on to tour as a professional for many years.
