Donald Cerrone Bio

He was born on March 29, 1983 in Columbus, Ohio. Cerrone spent his childhood in Denver, Colorado, where he struggled to mix with other kids due to attention deficit disorder. But he showed resilience even though he was still fighting with children. At Air Academy High School where he attended, Cerrone began riding the bull and turned professional in the sport.

He switched to kickboxing at the age of 20 when he started training in the sport. Donald distinguished himself in many ways in kickboxing and Muay Thai, before pursuing a career in mixed martial arts. Cerrone trained with various MMA fighters at Greg Jackson’s Submission Fighting Gaidojutsu in New Mexico. He was signed up for the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion and made his debut on the platform against Kenneth Alexander.

He won most of his fights in the promotion despite little controversy over his testing positive for hydrochlorothiazide, an early banned diuretic. In 2010, he transferred to the UFC alongside all WEC fighters after a merger between WEC and UFC. At UFC 126, he won his fight against Paul Kelly and earned fight night honors with his opponent. He then won his next fight at UFC 131 against Vagner Rocha, who replaced the injured Mac Danzig.

His next victory was with a three-time TKO against Charles Oliveira, who replaced Paul Taylor in the UFC at Versus 5. Cerrone’s win in that fight earned him the Knockout of Night title. In October 2011 at UFC 137 he fought Dennis Siver and gloriously beat him in the first round by submitting. The victory earned Cerrone the honors standings of the night.

The skilled fighter earned his first UFC lightweight title in 2015 after winning eight straight fights in just two years. Cerrone signed a new eight-fight contract with UFC in August 2016 and continued with his glorious wins. In 2017, heading to UFC 213, his fight with Robbie Lawler was postponed to UFC 214 after a staph infection and extracted armpits. Donald Cerrone then lost the fight via unanimous decision.

He won his fight against Yancy Medeiros via technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 126 held on February 18, 2018. The win gave Donald Cerrone the UFC record with most finishes and the most wins, with 14 and 20 respectively. However, at UFC Fight Night 132 he lost his fight to Leon Edwards via unanimous decision.

In a total of 45 mixed martial arts bouts, Cerrone had 33 wins and 11 losses. The professional mixed martial artist hopes to register more achievements in very difficult sports.
