Dog The Bounty Hunter Bio

Born on February 2, 1953 in Denver, Colorado with the full name Duane Lee Chapman , the Dog the Bounty Hunter star is the eldest of Wesley and Barbara Chapman’s four children. He is of German and English descent, taking the former from his mother, a pastor of the Assemblies of God, and the latter from his father. Duane has three siblings – two sisters and one brother.

Early in his adult life, he served a five-year prison sentence after his friend mistakenly shot and killed Jerry Oliver, an alleged pimp and drug dealer. At the time of the incident, Duane was waiting in the car for his friend to buy cannabis. A heated argument broke out between the deceased and Duane’s friend, during which Jerry died.

Instead of 5 years, Duane Chapman served only 18 months at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, after which he regained his freedom due to his good behavior. However, because of his convictions, he was stripped of the right to own a firearm and was also banned from entering the UK.

In 2007, Chapman revealed the inspiration behind becoming a bounty hunter in an interview for Fox News, saying that while he was in prison he attacked a fellow inmate who was trying to escape. This earned him the praise of a corrections officer and later motivated him to embark on a bounty hunting career.

In 2003, the bounty hunter became widely known after capturing Andrew Luster, who was fleeing the United States after being accused of drug abuse and raping various women. This subsequently led to the A&E reality television series, Hound the Bounty Hunter . The series, which aired for eight years (2004 – 2012), documented Dog’s experiences as a bounty hunter. After the show ended, he also starred in Dog and Beth: On the Hunt aired on A&E from April 21, 2013 to August 22, 2015.

Wealth (income and earnings)

The former bail bondsman had a net worth of just $597,000 in 2013, but that’s greatly increased since the show Hound the Bounty Hunter and Hound and Beth: On the Hunt went on the air. He is said to have earned a salary of around $50,000 to $80,000 while managing the former show.

Adding this to his other endeavors, including the publication of his own autobiography You Can Run But You Can’t Hide (2007) and his second book, Where Mercy Is Shown, Mercy Is Given (2010) has contributed to the growth of his net worth contributed to $6 million.

Chapman’s autobiography was a huge success, debuting at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. The book is currently sold on Amazon for $21.89 in hardcover and $17.10 in paperback.

divorce

Mister. Chapman once admitted that he likes women too much to settle down, which explains why his previous marriages ended in divorce. The bounty hunter has been married and divorced four times. His first recorded marriage was to La Fonda Sue Honeycutt. They married in Pampa, Texas on April 1, 1972 and divorced on October 27, 1977 when he was being jailed for murder.

He remarried to Anne M. Tegnell on August 22, 1979 in Colorado and three years later, exactly on August 5, 1982, according to court records, they were divorced. That same year, Chapman married Lyssa Rae Brittain, but their marriage crossed paths with the others as well.

family, wife (Beth)

After two failed marriages, Dog the Bounty Hunter met his fifth wife, Alice Elizabeth “Beth” Barmore (née Smith). He first saw her when she was charged in court with coveting and stealing lemons and decided to save her. This was in 1986 when Beth was 19 years old.

They had a romantic relationship for the next ten years and even married other people. Within this time, Beth married her first husband, who was her current husband’s best friend in high school, and she gave birth to a daughter named Cecily Barmore. Cecily was Beth’s second child, the first being Dominic Davis, whom she gave birth to when she was 17 and who was then taken over by the state.

On the other hand, Chapman tied the knot with Tawny Marie in 1992 and in 2002 they officially divorced. According to Duane Chapman, he never wanted to marry Tawny and he told her so, but somehow she was able to force him to marry her. Despite his misgivings, he said, he married her and their union proved a disaster from the start.

After their series of failed relationships, Duane and Beth got back together in 1995 and got serious about their relationship. They mixed their families and moved in together while building their business. They lived together for 16 years before marrying on May 20, 2006 at a Hilton hotel in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii. The occasion was filled with mixed feelings, however, as Chapman mourned the death of his daughter from his third marriage. She died in a car accident the day before.

In 2017, Beth was diagnosed with throat cancer, and after deciding to involve her fans in her journey to fight the disease, the couple embarked on a special called Dog and Beth: Fight of a Lifetime, on A&E. Unfortunately, that spread Disease eventually spread to her lungs, leading to a stage four diagnosis and subsequent death. She died on June 26, 2019 and was cremated at sea with some of her ashes.

his children

Dog The Bounty Hunter star gave birth to a total of 12 children, including adopted and deceased children. His first child, Christopher Michael Hecht, is the result of his relationship with Debbie White as a teenager. He was adopted after his mother committed suicide. Duane had no idea he had a child anywhere until Debbie’s mother contacted him to let him know that he had a son who was already an adult by that point.

The bounty hunter had two sons named Duane LeeChapman II and Leland Chapman from a first marriage. After his marriage was dissolved by his mother in prison, the boys were not allowed to see him for many years. However, their relationship was rekindled when the boys were 11 and 8 years old, and when they reached their teens Chapman was given custody of them.

His second marriage to Anne M. Tegnell produced three children; Zebediah Duane Chapman, Wesley Chapman and JR “James” Chapman. Sadly, Zebediah died not long after he was born in 1980. The two oldest grew up in Utah where they were raised by their mother.

Chapman had three other children with Lyssa Rae Brittain, namely Barbara Katie “BK” Chapman, Tucker Dee Chapman and Lyssa “Baby Lyssa” Rae Chapman, but Barbara died in an accident in 2006.

The famous bounty hunter didn’t have a child with his fourth wife, but he does have two biological children, Bonnie Joanne Chapman and Garry Chapman, with his current wife, Beth. He adopted Beth’s daughter Cecily and found their first child, Dominic.

Duane Chapman, his wife Beth, sons LelandChapman and Duane Lee Chapman II, and daughter Lyssa worked together on the A&E reality TV series Dog the Bounty Hunter as bail bondsman and bounty hunter.
